4 Night Murray River Discovery Cruise
The PS Murray Princess is the largest inland paddlewheeler in the southern hemisphere with an even larger flare and charm of years gone by. About the Cruise
Depart from the charming town of Mannum on Monday afternoon to begin your unforgettable 4 Night cruise. After mooring in Caurnamont be sure to look out the dining room window to find a fantastic array of wildlife thriving in the spectacular backdrop of the Murray River. Daybreak provides a tremendous view so be sure to make the most of your morning before a hearty breakfast and lunch. As the vessel glides further North stop off at Blanchetown and endeavour onshore for a guided tour of Burk Salter Boutique Winery, then be sure to join us for all the excitement of the “Murray River Cup” and a fantastic dinner. After breakfast on Wednesday we will voyage further along the Murray before arriving at Swan Reach, here you can join the guided walking tour of the local museum or enjoy the town itself. After lunch relax and watch the tranquil sights of the Murray glide past you before stopping off at Sunnydale to watch the woolshed show and visit the Native Wildlife Shelter. In the evening you can embrace your natural surroundings on the banks of the River while indulging in a classic Aussie Barbecue. Make the most of Thursday morning by having a bush walk with the Captain, before cruising down to Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites. Here you can discover the rich history of the area through an insightful guided boardwalk tour. As morning turns to afternoon feel free to embark on a tender boat ride or relax before your momentous evening on board, the Captain’s Dinner, dress up and dance the night away before returning to Mannum the following morning.
Sunnydale Woolshed Show & Native Wildlife Shelter
There are plenty of onshore tours to partake in on your time onboard the PS Murray Princess, and one of the highlights of the 4 Night Outback Heritage Cruise is the Sunnydale Woolshed Show & Native Wildlife Shelter. At the woolshed show, you can see the fun and entertaining recreation of common Australian woolshed history, seeing just how the farmers of the past worked. Later discover the array of creatures great and small that call the Murray their home with a visit to the Native Wildlife Shelter, where you can see the interesting inhabitants being cared for and meet those passionate about the environment of Murray River.
Swan Reach Museum
Immerse yourself in the rich history of the town of Swan Reach by joining a guided tour of the local museum (Swan Reach Museum asks for a gold-coin donation upon entry). The building itself was built in 1917 originally as a school building; now it is home to historical documents, photographs and items relating to the two key themes of the museum, the history of education and the history of the social aspects of the town. If you do not wish to partake in the tour feel free to venture out to the town of Swan Reach itself, you could either indulge in a beverage at the Swan Reach Hotel or go for a walk around town and discover what it has to offer.
Nocturnal tour: For an additional cost you can witness the wildlife of the Murray at night from the comforts of a purpose-built cart.
Bush Tucker Breakfast: For an additional cost enjoy a 3-course traditional Bush Tucker Breakfast on the shores of the Murray River wetlands at the Big Bend. Barossa Wine and Heritage Tour: For an additional cost at the end of the tour you can keep your South Australian experience going as you taste the finest produce of the region.
